Description of the program

The training program for Specialist Doctor level II in Internal Medicine helps students, after graduation, to become specialized doctors in internal medicine, and practical instructors, especially in the specialty learners chose for their graduation thesis.

Each year, 30-40 learners are enrolled. They are admitted to the program through the university’s entrance examination process. The program is taught in Vietnamese.

The 100-credit program consists of basic courses, basic specialty courses and professional courses. The basic courses include teaching methodology, medical English, research methodology, and advanced informatics. There are six basic specialty courses which are oncology, pathology, emergency resuscitation, radiology, and neurology. The professional courses in the program are cardiology, respiratory, gastroenterology, urology, endocrinology, hematology, and osteoarthritis. After completing the course of research methodology in medicine, learners can choose a topic for their thesis proposal and the Department assign each learner a supervisor to support them in doing their thesis. Teaching for the program are professors, associate professors, specialist doctors level II selected by the Department. In professional courses, theory and practice lessons are organized together in clinical departments of practice hospitals. In the lessons, learners can directly take part in medical examination, treatment, and procedures, and discuss clinical cases with lecturers. Along with studying at practice hospital, learners are required to complete data collection, references searching, data processing and thesis writing by the scheduled deadlines.

Each learner is assessed through clinical tests, MCQs based knowledge tests, and thematic overview reports. They also have to defend their dissertation to the University Professional Council.

Employment after completing the program

After graduation, learners can work at state health management agencies, at the Department of Internal Medicine in central, provincial or district hospitals, for medical universities or colleges.
