To enhance its prestige in Asia, Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy (TUMP) has extended its cooperation with different countries in the world, in the areas of training and research in order to improve the quality of education and training, in addition to acquiring valuable research.

TUMP has completed a variety of cooperation projects in the main fields of training program renewal, staff and faculty exchange, and has carried out cooperative research bringing influence of research value to other countries in the region and around the world.

Currently, TUMP’s main collaboration partners are Harvard University, USA (renovating medical training program), Thomas More University and Artelvelde University, Belgium (renovating nursing training program).

In addition, TUMP has conducted training exchange programs with the following universities to date: Naresuan University, Ubon Ratchathani University, Khon Kaen University, Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Thailand; Guangxi Medical University, Central South University University, Southern Medical University, China; Kaohsiung Medical University, Taipei Medical University, Taiwan; Artevelde University, Thomas More University, Belgium; Harvard University, University of Washington, USA; University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Nagoya University, Japan; University of Tasmania, Curtin University, Australia; University of Northern Denmark, Denmark, and Kapodistrian National University of Athens, Greece (building Hubs for excellence in midwifery)

Some of the international collaborative projects that TUMP has proudly been a part of include:

• Working in cooperation with the University of Groningen in the Netherlands to develop research on management of non-communicable disease

• Working under the Protocol with Institute of Virology at the Technical University of Munich in Germany to implement the joint research title ‘Application of gene sequencing and ELISpot technology in the risk assessment of mother-to-child transmission of HBV in HBsAg-positive mothers in Viet Nam’

• Working with Guangxi Medical University in China to implement joint research title “Genotype Distribution and Drug Resistance of HIV-1 Strains in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China and 4 Vietnamese Provinces Bordering to China”;

• Working with Emory University in the USA to conduct work related to the entitled “Impact of Pre-Pregnancy Micronutrient Supplementation on Maternal and Child Outcome under a Grant from MICRONUTRIENT INITIATIVE”.

In the future, the University aims to promote cooperation with other countries, and seeks the funding to conduct joint projects in the fields of training and research, with a particular focus on staff and faculty exchange and short-term internships.
