Overview

Abstract:

Objectives: Describe clinical features and some factors related to the motor disorders of patients with parkinson disease in stage 3 and 4 by Hoehn and Yahn. Methods: Cros-sectional, descriptive study. Results: 99 PD patients (46 male/53 female) in stage 3 and 4 by Hoehn and Yahn (69.3% in stage 3), treated at National Geriatric Hospital from August 2019 to May 2020. The average age was 69.19 ± 7.63. The average age of onset was 61.44 ± 8.40. The average time of illness and duration of levodopa use were 8.00 ± 3.40 and 6.00 ± 3.58 years, respectively. The average starting and the current dose are 254.42 ± 140.49 and 666.76 ± 244.95, respectively. The UPDRS-III scores in the "best" and "worst" periods, respectively, are 26.58 ± 8.60 and 34.60 ± 12.10, followed by H&Y. The average UPDRS-IV score is 3.97. There were 63 (63.6%) patients having motor complications, 53 (53.5%) with dyskinesia and 52 (52.5%) with motor fluctuations. There was a relationship between age of onset, duration of illness, time of levodopa using, initial dose and average daily intake of levodopa with the occurrence of motor complications and dyskinesia, statistically significant with p <0.05. There was a relationship between age of onset, duration of illness, time of levodopa use and current average dose of levodopa with the appearance of motor fluctuations (p <0.05). Conclusion: Research results show a close relation between the age of onset, duration of illness, time of levodopa use, starting dose and average daily intake of levodopa with the occurrence of motor complications and dyskinesia . There is also associtation of the age of onset, duration of illness, times of levodopa use and current average dose of levodopa with the appearance of motor fluctuations.
