COVID-19 SEQUELAE AMONG STUDENTS AT THAI NGUYEN UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY
Overview
Abstract:
Objective: To describe the current status of post-COVID-19 sequelae among
students at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Methods: A cross-sectional study of 328 regular students at Thai
Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy infected with SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Students were discharged from health care facilities or were out of isolation
according to Decision No. 250/QĐ-BYT dated January 28, 2022 of the Ministry of
Health, with negative test results by RT-PCR or rapid antigen test.
Results: 99.1% of students infected with COVID-19 did not receive
treatment at health care facilities, 44.5% of students ate worse than they did
previously, 28.7% of students did exercise during the infection period. Common
drug groups used to treat during COVID-19 infection are antipyretic (72.6%),
cough suppressant (68.0%), and dietary supplement (67.1%). The top 10 most
common post-COVID-19 sequelae are forgetfulness (71.6%), decreased
concentration (65.4%), cough (64.3%), fatigue (64.0%), headache (44.5%),
anxiety (39.6%). In addition, the study also showed a range of other less
common sequelae ranging from 12.5% to 38.7%. At the time of the survey, 28.0%
of students were not fully recovered. Proportion of students fully recovered
after 1-3 months and fully recovered after 4-6 months were 64.3% and 7.3% respectively.
Conclusion: COVID-19 affects human health not only during infection but also leaves
many sequelae later. COVID-19 not only affected students’ physical health but
also reduced their ability to concentrate, learning motivation and results.
