EVALUATING CHRONIC KIDNEY FAILURE KNOWLEDGE, CONFIDENCE, AND SELF-MANAGEMENT BEHAVIOR OF DISEASE AMONG PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC KIDNEY FAILURE IN THAI NGUYEN
Overview
Abstract:
Introduction:
The burden of chronic diseases is increasing rapidly all over the world. Supporting
patients in self-management is an effective approach to manage chronic kidney
disease and to slow the disease progress. Many factors have been identified
that related to the self-management behavior of disease among people with
chronic kidney disease.
Objectives: To identify
knowledge of chronic kidney failure level, the confidence and self-management
behavior of disease among patients with chronic kidney failure; to study
factors related to the self-management behavior of disease among patients with
chronic kidney failure in Thai Nguyen National Hospital.
Participants and method: A
cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 150 patients with chronic
kidney failure (who have not had dialysis) in Thai National Hospital. Data was
collected using 3 questionnaires (V.KiKS, V.SECDS, V.CKD-SM).
Results: Chronic kidney
failure knowledge, confidence in the process of disease management, and
self-management behavior of disease among patients with chronic kidney failure
was moderate ( = 16,84. SD = 3,12; =
37,32. SD = 1,31; = 58,19. SD = 1,42).
Factors related to to the self-management behavior of chronic kidney disease
including: the duration of disease was related at a low level, while chronic
kidney failure knowledge and confidence was correlated at a moderate level (r =
0,1; r = 0,45 và r = 0,34; p < 0,01).
Conclusion: There is a need
of providing chronic failure knowledge and enhance the confidence in the
process of disease management to patients. The nurses should develop an
education program of self-management behavior of disease to ensure the quality
of patient’s care.
