Evaluation of clinical and subclinical features of benign parotid tumours at Thai Nguyen National Hospital from 2020 to 2023

Abstract:
To evaluate clinical and subclinical
features of benign parotid tumors.
Subject and method: The records of
35 patients treated for benign parotid tumors between 2000 and 2018 were
evaluated at Thai Nguyen National Hospital from January 2020 to July 2023. A
descriptive design was applied in the current
study. The data
has been analyzed
by SPSS version
25.0. Result: Average age:
54.5 ± 16; male/female = 1.69/1; 100% patients with
symptom of palpable tumor on parotid gland position. The group of 12-60 months from symptom onset to hospital admission accounted for 68.8%.
Among 35 patients, 29
patients had tumors
in the superficial
lobe. Preoperative cytology
and postoperative histopathology
show similarities, histological type of pleomorphic adenoma was the most
prevalant, followed by warthin tumor. Conclusion: Benign parotid tumors mainly
diagnosed in middle age, more common
in men than
women. Predominant clinical
symptom was a
palpable tumor. The
results of ultrasound, fine
needle aspiration, and postoperative histopathology play critical roles in
diagnosing benign parotid tumors.
