Overview
Abstract:
To evaluate clinical and subclinical
features of benign parotid tumors.
Subject and method: The records of
35 patients treated for benign parotid tumors between 2000 and 2018 were
evaluated at Thai Nguyen National Hospital from January 2020 to July 2023. A
descriptive design was applied in the current
study.  The  data
has  been  analyzed
by  SPSS  version
25.0. Result:  Average  age:
54.5  ±  16; male/female = 1.69/1; 100% patients with
symptom of palpable tumor on parotid gland position. The group  of 12-60 months  from symptom onset to hospital  admission accounted  for  68.8%.
Among  35 patients,  29
patients  had  tumors
in  the  superficial
lobe.  Preoperative  cytology
and  postoperative histopathology
show similarities, histological type of pleomorphic adenoma was the most
prevalant, followed by warthin tumor. Conclusion: Benign parotid tumors mainly
diagnosed in middle age, more common
in  men  than
women.  Predominant  clinical
symptom  was  a
palpable  tumor.  The
results  of ultrasound, fine
needle aspiration, and postoperative histopathology play critical roles in
diagnosing benign parotid tumors.
