Overview

Abstract:

A cross-sectional descriptive study was used on 58 patients diagnosed with hepato-cellular carcinoma receiving transarterial chemoembolization with Lipiodol and Doxorubicin at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital from August 2016 to August 2020. The study objective is to evaluate the response of tumors after receiving transarterial chemoembolization. The most tumors were supplied by the visceral artery, accounting for 91.4%, transarterial chemoembolization technique was mainly performed on one tumor, accounting for 70.7%. After chemoembolization, the rate of tumors with vascular proliferation decreased, at the time before embolization, this rate was 77.6% (45/58). After six months of embolization, this rate was 17.9% (7/39). After transarterial chemoembolization, tumor’s size decreased. Before embolism, 32.8% of patients had tumor size ≤ 5 cm; after a period of 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months, the proportion of patients with tumor size ≤ 5 cm were 38.6%, 51.1% and 61.5%, respectively. The average size of the tumor before transarterial chemoembolization was 71.2 ± 27.5 mm. After 1 month, the average was 67.9 ± 25.9 mm. Research results show that, Transarterial chemoembolization was an effective method for treating hepato-cellular carcinoma. Transarterial chemoembolization is mostly applied for only one feeding vessel. After the procedure, the tumor’s size decreased time by time.
