Factors associated with early complication in acute ischemic stroke patients
Overview
Abstract:
Introduction: The apperance of complications is one of the causes exacerbating the disease, leading to risk of mortality or leaving disabilities of stroke patients. Objectives: Analyze some related factor to early complications in patients suffered from acute ischemia cerebral infarction patients, treated at Thai Nguyen National Hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 153 patients with acute cerebral infarction treated in the Department of Neurology - Thai Nguyen Central Hospital. Results: The mean age of subjects is 68,39±11,59 (years). The male rate is 61,4%. The propotions of patients with history of hypertention, lipid metabolism disorder, diabetes are 75,2%, 40,5% and 20,3%, respectively. the average NIHSS scores at admission and discharge were 7,71±3,48 and 5,13±6,99 (points), respectively. The rate of patients with mRS score from 0-3 at discharge accounted for 83,0%. Common early complications were pneumonia 13,9%, urinary tract infection 3,9%, cardiovascular 3,9% and gastrointestinal bleeding 2,6%. NIHSS score over 10 is associated with apperance of early complications, but there is no association between history of alcohol abuse, smoking, diabetes, the side of hemiplegia and early complications. Conclusion: The common early complications in patients with acute ischemia cerebral infartion is pneumonia. The NIHSS score over 10, limb weakness grade 4 and 5, without performing early rehabilitation exercises have relation to early complications in acute ischemia cerebral infartion.
