Overview

Abstract:

Objective: Analyze some factors affecting sleep quality in patients with dizziness at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital. Subjects: 85 patients with dizziness treated at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital, time: from April 2024 to February 2025. Method: Descriptive study. Results: The average age of patients in the study was 63.75±14.9. The male/female ratio was 31/54. The proportion of patients with stable income was 43%. 18% of patients were financially dependent on their families. The proportion of patients living alone was quite high (38.8%). The average duration of dizziness of patients was 5.62±5.47 years with an average DHI score of 41.48±13.19. Vestibular dizziness was the most common form of dizziness (65.9%). The most common trigger factor causing dizziness in these patients was when changing position (85.9%), with episodic dizziness accounting for a large proportion (92.9%). Regarding sleep quality: the average PSQI score was 13.35. The average sleep latency was 79.17±64.14 minutes. The mean sleep duration in these patients was 4.77 hours per night. The proportion of patients with poor and relatively poor sleep efficiency (sleep efficiency <75%) was 72.9%. Mean sleep duration was lower in patients with lightheadedness, dizziness that increased with exertion (p<0.05). Patients who were employed and had a stable income had a lower rate of poor and relatively poor sleep efficiency (sleep efficiency <75%) than patients with unstable or dependent income (p<0.05). Decreased sleep efficiency was more common in patients with dizziness that increased with changing position or without aggravating factors. Patients with sleep disorder (PSQI>5) had a higher mean DHI score than patients without it. Conclusion: The study results showed that there was an association between sleep disturbance and the severity of dizziness, lightheadedness; dizziness without aggravating factors or dizziness that increased with changing position.
