KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICES OF PARENTS OF PEDIATRIC PATIENTS WITH THALASSEMIA TREATED AT THAI NGUYEN NATIONAL GENERAL HOSPITAL IN 2020

Abstract:
Research objectives: To
assess knowledge, attitude and
practices (KAP) of parents of
pediatric patients with thalassemia
treated at Thai Nguyen National General Hospital in 2020. Research methods: Description, the design of cross-sectional study. Research results:
Rates of parents of
pediatric patients demonstrated good and excellent levels of knowledge and attitude towards thalassemia prevention were 31,1% and 68.9%
respectively. 20% of parents
of pediatric patients voluntarily test for detection of thalassemia disease.
The proportion of pediatric
patients’ parents who ever counseled their relatives to test for detection of
thalassemia disease was 36.7%;
actively seeking
information and sharing knowledge about thalassemia disease with others of parents of pediatric patients accounted
for 74.4% and 65.0% respectively. Conclusion:
Knowledge, attitude, and practices of parents of pediatric patients towards Thalassemia prevention are not yet
positive.
