Overview

Abstract:

Objective: To describe the current status of knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) prevention among tuberculosis patients treated at Thai Nguyen Lung Hospital in 2024. Additionally, to identify factors associated with KAP in DR-TB prevention in these patients. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted. Results: The study found that 31.4% of patients had inadequate knowledge, 32.7% had poor attitudes, and 30.8% demonstrated inadequate practices regarding DR TB prevention. There were associations between gender, age group, and occupation with knowledge about DR-TB prevention; between education level, place of residence, income, comorbidities, and knowledge with attitudes towards DR-TB prevention; and between place of residence and knowledge with practices in DR-TB prevention. These differences were statistically significant with p < 0.05. Conclusion: Knowledge about DR-TB prevention has a significant impact on patients'  attitudes and practices. Demographic, social factors, and knowledge all play important roles in influencing KAP related to DR-TB prevention. These differences are statistically significant with a p-value < 0.05.
