Objectives: To describe the current status of nursing care for elderly patients after total hip

arthroplasty (THA) for femoral neck fracture at Thai Nguyen National Hospital in 2025.

Subjects and methods: A prospective descriptive study with longitudinal follow-up was conducted among66 patients aged ≥60 years who underwent THA from February to October 2025 at the Department of Trauma and Orthopedics; the same patients were repeatedly assessed on day 1, day 3, and before discharge. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in SPSS 25.0.

Results: Mean age was 65.7 years [standard deviation requires verification against source data]; 75.8% were male. The main causes for surgery were falls (50.0%) and femoral head necrosis (47.0%). During the first 24 hours, 97.0% of patients reported severe pain; by discharge, 84.8% were pain-free, 12.1% had mild pain, and 3.0% had moderate pain. Surgical wounds were dry in 100% of patients before discharge, with no infection or bleeding noted on routine clinical observation; drains functioned normally and were

safely removed. All patients (100%) were monitored for bleeding and wound status ≥2 times/day during the first 24 hours; 97.0% received early mobilization guidance and 100% received nutritional counseling and health education. Self-reported satisfaction was 92.4%

“very satisfied” and 7.6% “satisfied”.

Conclusion: Within the limits of a descriptive design without a comparison group, the data show that postoperative nursing care after THA at Thai Nguyen National Hospital followed the intended protocol, alongside favorable clinical course and high self-reported satisfaction; the study does not provide sufficient basis to attribute these outcomes directly to the effectiveness of nursing care.
