Overview

Abstract:

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the result of the 6- minute walk test and prognosis of patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed with 74 patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction who underwent a 6-minute walk test at their discharge at Thai Nguyen National Hospital. Information for mortality and rehospitalization from the patients were collected during a 6-month follow-up period. The research findings revealed that the rate of rehospitalization and mortality during the 6-month follow-up period were 51.4% and 8.1% respectively. The area under the curve of 6-minute walk distance in the prognosis of re-hospitalization and mortality were 0.705 and 0.847 respectively; p<0.05. Cox proportional hazard analysis revealed that 6-minute walk distance <219 m (HR=2.29; 95% CI: 1.12- 4.71; p=0.023) is a short-term predictor of re-hospitalization in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. In conclusion, 6-minute walk test distance is a short-term predictor of re-hospitalization, mortality in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.
