Overview

Abstract:

A cross-sectional descriptive design study was conducted in Hospital of Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy to describe practice of injection safety and explored factors related to practice of injection safety. Data were collected from 31 nurses by using the structured standardized observation checklist and seft-administered questionnaire. The results showed that most of the nurse (83.9%) had fair practice of injection safety and 16.1% had good practice of injection safety. About 6.5% of the nurse had good knowledge score of injection safety, while 83.8% and 9.7% had fair and poor knowledge score of injection safety respectively. Most of the nurse (71%) did not like injections medication than taking the oral medication for patients. The significant relationship between the barriers of the practice of injection safety and practice of injection safety was found in this study (r = -.408, p < .005). This means that, the lower barriers of the practice of injection safety, the better nurses were to practice injection safety

It is recommended that nurses and directorate of hospital should develop plan to futher enhance practice of injection safety in hospital to ensure the safety of patients, health workers and community by remove or reduce barriers of practive of injection safety which have been identified in this study
