Studying the acute toxicity and hepatoprotective effect of ethanol extract of stem bark of oroxylum indicum (l.) Vent in Thai Nguyen
Overview
Abstract:
Research with the aim of evaluating the acute toxicity and
hepatoprotective effect of ethanol extract of stem bark of Oroxylum indicum
(L.) Vent. Method was Determination of acute oral toxicity according to the
Litchfield – Wilcoxon’s method; evaluate the hepatoprotective effect of ethanol
extract of stem bark of Oroxylum indicum against carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄)
induced hepatotoxicity. Research results show that the LD50 of the ethanol
extract of stem bark of Oroxylum indicum could not be determined. After 8 days
for oral administration, ethanol extract of stem bark of Oroxylum indicum at
doses of 300mg/kg and 900mg/kg showed a hepatoprotective effect by reducing
AST, ALT and MDA levels, in addition, a dose of 900mg/kg showed limited damage
to the liver injury induced by CCl4 in a mice model. Through the study, we have
the following conclusions the ethanol extract of stem bark of Oroxylum indicum
is safe and exhibits hepatoprotective effects against CCl4.
