Overview

Abstract:

Actinomyces can be found on Amydal surgical specimens. Aims: Determine the rate of Actinomyces infection and investigate the association between Actinomyces  infection and some general characteristics and histopathology of Amydal surgical specimens. Object: 154 cases. Methods: Retrospective cross-sectional description. Results: there are more men than women (60,4% and 39,6%). The majority of patients are children with a rate of 51,9%. The rate of Actinomyces infection was 27,3% (42/154). Actinomyces infection is not related to age group or Amydal size with p>0.05 but is significantly related to the appearance of "sulfur granules" when macroscopically observed. Conclusion: Actinomyces infection can be assessed on microscopic specimens of surgical Amydal specimens.
