Overview

Abstract:

Background: Clinical education environment includes the skills practice room and the clinical practice environment that affects the competencies of nursing students. Nursing students always have the opportunity to directly assess and care for patients, and communicate effectively with patients' families and medical staff when in a clinical practice environment. However, in reality, the clinical practice environment that meets the learning needs of students still has many limitations.

Methods: This cross - sectional study was conducted among 190 nursing students to describe the level of satisfaction of nursing students at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy about the clinical practice environment and find out some related factors.

Results: Results showed that the percentage of BNS students who are satisfied with the clinical practice environment accounts for a high rate of 92.1%. The satisfaction level of students about the clinical practice environment is high (M = 3.98 ± 0.40), in which the satisfaction level of the research study about the role of clinical lecturer is the highest (4.11 ± 0.45). There is a statistically significant relationship between satisfaction with the clinical practice environment and receiving clinical instruction before practice, having a duty room, lecture hall at the clinical department, the head nurse received and introduced to the clinical department, the number of on duty per week, the number of patients assigned to care (p < 0.001).

Conclusions: The majority of nursing students are satisfied with the clinical practice environment. Receiving clinical instructions before practice, having an on-call room and lecture hall at the clinical department, being introduced to the clinical department by the head nurse, number of on-call sessions per week for students, number of patients be assigned to care are factors associated with satisfaction with the clinical practice environment.
